Sugarbud Dazzledance 1/3

Also: A Dresden Files(TV)/Doctor Who crossover of sorts, though this part is exclusive TDF. For [livejournal.com profile] sha_chan, who topped me for this. X3

The Fair Adventures of Sir Sugarbud Dazzledance 1/3

A fairy on Harry Dresden's desk wasn't exactly news. At all. Neither that said fairy was riding a cat. The unexpected bit was that the cat was wearing a full-body armor. How did you put an armor on a cat? A saddle, maybe, but a whole, metallic armor? Regardless of spirit-of-nature-ness on the fairy's part, household felines could be real bastards who appreciated to be left alone to do whatever they wanted whenever they wanted maybe a little bit too much --which didn't mean Harry didn't like cats, quite the contrary, actually. Either way, this little fact spoke miles about the little guy's courage and earned him a good deal of respect from the wizard's part. A good start, really.

"So, what can I help you with?" Harry asked his visitor.

"I'm looking for a certain Harry Dresden," the fairy said with a voice less high-pitched than expected.

"Well, look no further," Harry said, widening his eyes and broadening his arms and sounding far more condescending than planned. Yet, if the fairy noticed, he didn't show it.

"Very well," he said instead, dismounting gracefully. Then he walked towards Harry, his small boots clanking on the desk. As he spoke, he held his head so high Harry could've seen what was inside the fairy's nostrils if they hadn't been so tiny. "I am Sir Sugarbud Dazzledance. I seek your assistance in the matter of saving my kingdom from ultimate destruction."

Okay, that did sound serious.

"What is threatening your kingdom?" Harry asked.

Sir Sugarbud's noisy pacing stopped suddenly. "You."

"Huh? Me?"

"Well, not you-you personally," Sir Sugarbud handwaved. "Your people, in general. The humans"

"Oh." That made more sense. "How are we threatening you, exactly?"

"According to my sources, you want to build something called a mall just over our heads."

Predictable.

Why was it never an orphanage, a retirement home or even just a shelter for abandoned, yappy chihuahuas? On the plus side, sabotaging the construction of a shelter for compulsive consumers instead did wonders for one's sense of guilt.

"Try not to hurt anyone," Harry said after explaining Sir Sugarbud what to do while he went to the City Hall to see if he still had some contacts up there. "Making them believe the place is haunted doesn't work as it used to, but it should buy us some time." He paused. And looked at Sir Sugarbud right in the eyes. "But, seriously, don't overdo it, got that?"

"Certainly," Sir Sugarbud answered, a little disdain in his voice, as if he couldn't believe Harry thought he'd hurt anyone. Or so Harry hoped.

"Good."

Sir Sugarbud went back to his meowing steed, that had been waiting patiently --unnaturally, Harry would say-- on the desk's corner. Then, they both went through the window and then up to the city's roofs.

Harry held a shudder until the cat's armor's metallic noise was lost. He really wanted to talk with someone about that.

"How do you plan to help him exactly?" Bob asked, appearing all of the sudden right next to the wizard.

Oh, right, Bob.

"Did you see the cat?" Harry asked.

"Yes, quite unusual, but not entirely unheard of."

"Really? Because. Wow."

"You should read more fairy tales, Dresden."

"Will do, Bob. Will absolutely do."
