Sugarbud Dazzledance 2/3

First part here.

This second part is all about Doctor Who. :D

The Fair Adventures of Sir Sugarbud Dazzledance 2/3

Sir Sugarbud Dazzledance rode on his cat all the way back to his kingdom, mulling over the wizard's advice. He hoped for it to work swiftly, as promised. He knew his sire was --had always been-- disgusted by the mere thought of war and that he'd rather order his subjects to go find another dwelling place than going for an outright offensive against humans. That was why, even though the plan consisted only of delaying tactics, Sir Sugarbud would keep his lord in the dark and act aided only by a few recruits. Or alone, if he had to.

He stopped suddenly both his travel and his train of thought when he saw, quite near the entrance to the palace, a new addition to the human plans, something that looked like a small, wooden blue shed where they surely kept more of their tools.

Sir Sugarbud frowned.

He'd start right there.

"What d'you mean, Chicago?" the Doctor asked.

"That's what the billboard outside says," Rose said.

"And it looks pretty much like an early 21st-Century Chicago billboard," Jack said. "Why do we always end up in the early 21st Century whenever we come to Earth?" he added after a thoughtful pause.

"The Tardis must like it," Rose said.

The Doctor went outside and looked. "I don't get it. We're supposed to be in Ancient Greece."

Jack folded his arms. "I know, and I'm thoroughly disappointed: I've never had the chance to check what they say about ancient Greeks."

"Oh, that's-- that's true," the Doctor said absentmindedly as he came back to hit the control panel. "Been there--" he stopped abruptly. "I think I heard a noise."

Rose snorted. "Finish what you were going to say."

"Yeah, Doc, we wanna know," Jack added, practically bouncing.

The Doctor stared at them for a second, and then turned his head quickly to the side. "There it is again."

Rose and Jack exchanged looks.

"He was going to say it," she said.

He smiled broadly. "I know."

But the Doctor wasn't --or at least he was pretending he wasn't-- paying attention to them. "Over here," he said, walking towards the Tardis' door.

"Maybe it's a mouse," Rose said. "Have there ever been mice on the Tardis?"

"Yep. From several galaxies, even." The Doctor walked forward, pointing his screwdriver at the floor. "However, I doubt this is a mouse. Sounds bigger."

As soon as he said that, something bigger than a mouse jumped at the Doctor's face. It was a cat. Or something that looked like a cat. A cat in a full-body armor.

"Doctor!" exclaimed both Rose and Jack and the same time as they leapt forward to help him. Yet, when they reached him, the armored cat jumped away from the Doctor. It hissed when its paws touched the Tardis's floor.

"What the--" began the Doctor, but he couldn't finish; a cackle, a very small cackle raised from his feet.

"I'll take this, if you don't mind, and use it for worthier causes."

Rose and Jack looked down. The Doctor did too, between the fingers of the hand he held against his scratched face.

"T-That's my sonic screwdriver!" the Doctor yelled, pointing at a small human-like figure on the floor that held the screwdriver as a spear.

"Not anymore," the little man said, gesturing towards the cat. Before anyone could move, the cat dashed between them, took the little man with its teeth and left the ship.

The Doctor was furious.

"That. Is. Mine!" He kept yelling as he ran behind them. "Who left the door open?"

"It was you," Rose said.

The Doctor didn't reply. Instead, he kept moving, followed by his two companions.

But there was nothing out there, nothing but lots of heavy machinery and the Chicago billboard a few meters away.

"That little-- I'm going to get him!"

"What did he mean by 'worthier causes'?" Jack asked.

"I've no idea," the Doctor grumbled.

"Don't you have a tracking device for the screwdriver or something?" Rose said.

The Doctor looked at her. "I don't, but I will soon." He went back inside and straight to work.

"It's going to be tough for him," Jack said.

"Yeah, he loves that screwdriver."

"No, I mean: working on something without the screwdriver."

"Oh."

As soon as she said that, both of them could hear the Doctor's curses flowing from inside the Tardis and out to the warm spring night.
