Also, I've no idea what's Jack doing in Chicago exactly. But that's irrelevant anyway. *shifty eyes*

Bob and Mister jumped out from a window to a dark alley after going through some files in some office. They hadn't found anything relevant to Harry's current case, but they did find a couple of suggestive photographs that made Bob feel sorry --once more-- that Mister didn't have neither the anatomy nor the interest to react accordingly. It wasn't the first time he wished he could possess a human instead of a cat, but, knowing Harry, the chances of that were minimal. Besides, it was still early: they had lot of time to go around and keep searching.

As he thought of that, he got careless. Of course, he only noticed he'd gotten careless when he felt Mister's body being picked up; the cat had also choose that precise moment to let his mind wander, which he did often while Bob possessed him. That used to help the spirit on his job most of the time. Sadly, this looked like one of the exceptions.

Even if Mister was a big cat, he was still a cat; many women found that enough to say he was adorable, and hold and pet and feed him and even pressing him their chests. Sadly, the one holding up Mister at that very moment was a man. Good looking --even Bob had to concede that-- but still a human male. And a mundane, to boot.

Finally realizing what had happened, Mister mewed. He didn't try to escape, though; he'd get to that if the man turned out to be a threat --as Bob had found during the time they'd worked together, that cat had creative ways to use his claws, so this situation was not exactly a problem.

The problem came when the man spoke.

"I wonder if you're the one I'm looking for," he said.

Mister mewed.

"Don't play hard to get with me," the man said. "I saw you opening and closing files and then putting them back where they were, you're not ordinary cat and I happen to be looking for a shapeshifter."

Mister mewed again and let Bob take full control.

Bob stepped forward. Figuratively.

"We're not a shapeshifter," he said through Mister's mouth, making the cat's eyes glow. "We are an air spirit and a cat. And you?"

"I'm afraid that's classified information. But you can call me Jack."

"Very well, Jack. Given that we're not the shapeshifter you are looking for, can we go? We have a deadline."

"How do I know you're not causing any mischief?"

Mister rolled the still glowing eyes. "As a spirit, I'm pretty much immaterial, and this is a cat. What harm could a cat do?"

Mister meowed and purred innocently.

Jack made a face. "Do you think I've never been around a cat?" He sighed and put Mister down again. "Whatever. I'm on a deadline too and I need to find my alien."

Bob snorted. "Alien? Come on, do you really believe in aliens from outer space?"

"Of all people," Jack said, "I would've expected a spirit to have an open mind."

"There's a difference between keeping your mind open and letting your brain fall out, you know?"

Jack shook his head but before he could answer, a thing on his ear rang. It had to be one of those modern things Harry would never be able to do use. Jack listened and then said, "You sure, Tosh? That nightclub? Of course I've been there, great place to practice my pick up lines too. Thank you, you're the best." He then turned to Bob and Mister. "It was nice meeting you." He started to walk away. "And stay out of trouble."

That shouldn't supposed to be a problem: staying out of trouble was pretty much Bob's goal in life --the one jumping into them was Harry, after all.

But then, he noticed something. If Jack had seen them going through the files, it meant he'd been inside the office too, which meant there was a chance his 'alien' and Harry's case were related --and Jack was going to a nightclub, where there would be lots of sweaty, scantily clad girls dancing and drinking and--

Perhaps, if Bob used his power of persuasion to the max, he could probably strike a good deal.

"Hey, Jack! Jack! Wait!"

___

Bob did get the deal he wanted, and perhaps he would've gotten a lot of important information too take back home if he hadn't been hysterically regretting his decision within half an hour.

He didn't bother to take into account how difficult it was to make a free-willed cat to remain in one place for longer than he wanted to, and he didn't even considered the possibility that the nightclub they were going to was a gay one.

Jack, on the other hand, had lots of fun while he searched for his alien, which he did find --eventually-- and took with him to wherever he came from after he left Bob half a block away from Harry's place near dawn.

___

Bob refused --and would do so for ever-- to talk with Harry about what had happened that night, even though he made a point of saying he wouldn't be willing to leave the house until his psychological wounds healed.

And that was going to take a while.
