Notes: HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
allira_dream!!!!
The smoke, escaped from Someya's lips, formed an elegant curl around her head before vanishing into nothingness, as she thought, once more, about how lonely little, doe-eyed Ayase was with that huge, mean bear as only company. Sporadic company, she corrected herself. She smoked her cigaret again, held the delicious fumes in for a second, and let them out through her nostrils. Did Ayase and Kanou ever get to talk? Outside the bed, that is, beyond the moans and beggings for more —or less. The boy did need someone to talk to; he needed to let things out. There was a limit to how much a person could bottle up, but Kanou would always torture —before squishing— the fly that made the mistake to land within ten feet of Ayase.
The limousine's door opened; the wind gushed in and made the smoke disappear faster. Someya put the cigaret out in the door's ashtray and left the butt there; she was going to pay a visit to the madame of a mildly successful okama bar: it wouldn't be good if she were to enter already smoking.
It was good to remain friendly with other okama groups. Being together against adversity, helping each other in times of need... all that jazz; then again, if they didn't take care of themselves, who would?
The bar was a nice place. Homely, even. The girls's perfumes and the smell of the food mixed in the air, just like the chit-chat between the okamas and the customers. Someya walked by the tables to get to where the madame was waiting for her. Suddenly, she noticed a piece of paper falling down from one girl's purse. Obeying a sudden intuition, she picked it up. It was a photograph that portrayed a cute, young girl.
"Oh! I'm sorry! That's mine!" Someya heard. She turned around and saw a red-haired okama. Smiling, Someya gave back the photograph.
"Is that your daughter?" she asked. "She's beautiful."
That simple phrase worked like a trigger; the other okama —who introduced herself as Fujioka Ranka— began talking very enthusiastically about her daughter, Haruhi. Someya listened out of good manners, until a single fact grabbed her interest: Haruhi had earned herself a scholarship in the very elitist Ouran High School. A smart girl she had to be, then. And she looked rather well-adjusted (at least for an okama's offspring —which was rare, actually). On top of that, she was around the right age and had the big eyes for which Kanou was developing a soft spot.
So far, Someya's intuition had proved to be worthy; she decided to push it a little further and directed the conversation to invite herself to Ranka's home to evaluate Haruhi.
-
Haruhi was glad she wasn't all that much afraid of the impressive things rich people used to have anymore. Like the bodyguard who opened the door. As a matter of fact, this man didn't look as fearsome as Mori —though only for a bit. She did notice him raising his eyebrows when she just smile as he let her in after reading her father's friend's introductory letter. She was asked to wait in the living room for a moment, while the bodyguard announced her to his boss.
Haruhi, curious, looked around. There were a lot of expensive furniture, paintings, and vases everywhere. But, all in all, the room was far less impressive than the Third Music Room whenever Tamaki decided he wanted to go 'classical'.
Someya had spoken about a shy boy who needed a friend. She had also been very specific about how Haruhi's calm demeanor made her perfect for the job —which Ranka had practically forced his daughter to take, though she refused to be paid for it, since she couldn't work as long as she were an Ouran student.
Haruhi wondered what kind of person could be this Ayase, for making it a job to be his friend. Still, as she saw it, it wouldn't be all that different from host duty. She had already handled difficult customers and survived.
"So, let's see what Someya sent me," said someone behind her. Haruhi spun around to find a huge, mean-looking man staring at her. He had to be Somoku Kanou, the house's owner. Someya talked a lot about him too; she pointed out that Haruhi needed to be really polite toward him. Also, he wouldn't eat her as long as she acted as herself.
"Good afternoon," she said, bowing.
"Your name is Fujioka Haruhi, isn't it?"
"Yes. Someya-san—"
"Yes, I know. Let's skip that. Listen," he said, sitting down in a very business-like manner, though not asking her to do the same, "before you meet Ayase, I'm going to tell you something, and I want you to remember it, you got that?"
"Yes." What a crude man! Haruhi thought of what Tamaki would answer to his words, and held back a smile.
"Ayase's in a very special situation. Don't ask anything about it. Also, you can't leave the apartment. My assistant (he pointed at the man who had opened the door) will be watching you both." He looked at her as if he was asking her if she had any objections.
"T-that's okay..." she said, smiling nervously. Anyone would say she was going to ask Ayase's hand in marriage.
Kanou nodded and stood up. "I'll tell him to come," he said before stridding out the room.
-
When Someya showed up the day before cooing she had found the perfect friend for him, Ayase did nothing more than nod and smile. What had she meant "perfect friend"? He had his own friends... Just, he wasn't allowed to see them... for the time being. Still, Someya had gone to the trouble to finding someone he could talk to —as she had said—, so Ayase wasn't going to refuse to speak with this person, was he?
Kanou came back to the room saying the girl Someya had sent was good enough. He also reminded Ayase what he could say to her or not. He didn't need to do that; Ayase was not going to tell a stranger everything about the situation he was in.
Ayase took a deep breath and walked toward the living room. Kuba was going to be there, monitoring everything. Yet, it was better than having Kanou himself in the room.
He opened the door and saw a girl a couple of years younger than him; she was smiling sweetly. "Hello," he said. "I'm Yukiya Ayase."
She bowed. "Nice to meet you. My name's Fujioka Haruhi."
"So, what... Hmm, what would you like... eh... to do?"
She tilted her head. "The question should be what would you like to do?"
That surprised him. "I'm not sure," he managed.
"What about some tea, then?"
It wasn't long until Ayase felt comfortable after Haruhi took over. She was nice and had a very broad range of topics to talk about. She talked about her school and the weird classmates she had. Ayase found himself wanting to meet the troublesome twins she had mentioned.
About a short hour later, Kanou went into the living room. He told Haruhi it was getting late, and that he would send her home with his assistant. She declined at first, but, as Ayase had found out since the very beginning, no-one said no to Kanou.
-
Kanou had been hearing everything from the other side of the living's room door. Everything went as he had expected, seeing that Fujioka, whom he had investigated thoroughly, was a member of a Host Club. He vaguely wondered who in their right mind would allow that sort of club in a High School, but then he decided it didn't matter; she was making Ayase laugh. Kanou made mental note of calling Someya to tell her that her experiment had been successful.
Finally, the time for Fujioka's stay ran out. Kanou went into the living room and sent her away with Kuba. "Did you have a good time?" Kanou asked to Ayase, lighting a cigaret.
"Yes." Ayase still had traces of a smile on his face that weakened out Kanou's knees. He cleared his throat.
"We'll ask her to come once a month."
"Fine," Ayase said, but he widened his eyes in disappointment.
"Twice a month," Kanou said, after a pause. Then, he left the room, or they'd end up having Fujioka for dinner every other day.
