It was a very fine goat, gorgeous; the cutest goat Captain Jack Sparrow had ever set eyes upon. He most certainly could say that the Sea, in its magnanimity, had began to try and compensate him for all his misfortunes.
Yes, he'd lost his beloved Black Pearl to a band of ungrateful mutineers, and he'd barely escaped death by means of a crew of big-hearted rum smugglers who, instead of killing him for having drunk a good half of their reserve, they'd been kind enough to only make him their slave. Jack had escaped very easily from them too as soon as they reached land. Of course, after he gathered his effects, he'd 'borrowed' some money which he used a little later to celebrate his new regained freedom in the fist tavern he found.
Then, he'd commandeered a ship just big enough for him to sail it on his own and he went on his way.
Now, in his quest for the Black Pearl, a couple of months later, the Sea had brought him to this marvelous island, full with clean water and plenty of delicious, naive animals that had never seen a man and walked right to his traps.
And the goat. The goat was there too, eating its grass in the middle of a clear, just being cute.
Jack needed to be cautious, gain its trust carefully, little by little. Except for the part where he had to find his ship as soon as possible. Thus, he thought, he'd have to do it fast.
He could be a pirate, but he wasn't going to take hold of a goat against its will. Much.
Jack breathed deeply, put what he thought was his best face and walked slowly towards the goat. “Here, pretty, pretty, pretty...”
The goat raised its head and, with grass still on its mouth, looked at him curiously. It hadn't run away and that could be said to be a good beginning.
Jack smiled broadly. “Come 'ere, doll. That's a good... gr— bo— goat.”
The goat tilted its head, chew its grass and swallowed it. Then, the animal bleated three times.
There was a moment of silence and then a howl answered.
A howl, like in 'a dangerous animal known as a wolf is near'. And, according to his awful experiences in mainland, it was very unlikely for one wolf to be just one.
Jack looked around while playing with his fingers.
The volume of the howl meant the wolf wasn't exactly far away from the spot he was standing in.
Still, and Jack noticed this quickly, the goat, a prey by its very nature, didn't show any fear at all after hearing a predator. Actually, it just bleated again. And the wolf howled again—this time it sounded nearer.
That was getting odder and odder, and for a man who had been through what Jack had been through to say it, it certainly was a lot.
The 'dialogue'—Jack couldn't call it any other way—continued for nearly a minute, and the wolf seemed to be getting closer and closer every time it howled.
What am I still doing here? he asked to himself, but he didn't answer; he was just too enthralled by the whole thing.
Suddenly, the goat gave Jack one last look, turned around and left the clear. It walked towards the bushes shaking its lovely bottom and disappeared.
Jack made a movement forward to make a last plea on his case when a huge creature full with fangs jumped right in front of him.
A wolf. It was a wolf.
No, it was the wolf.
Jack raised his hands as if he were going to explain himself and walked slowly backwards. “Easy, easy there, boy. Take it from me: you don't want to cross Captain Jack Sparrow, savvy?”
The wolf growled.
“Fine, maybe you do,” Jack said as he turned around and ran towards the shore as fast as he could.
The wolf chased him, though not all the way, which Jack didn't notice that until he'd reached the beach.
When Jack looked around, there was no trace of the animal, not even a movement in the bushes back there.
Jack regained his gait then. He loaded the water and the animals he'd hunted to his ship and left the island.
Once again in the sea, he did wonder what all that had being about, but, as many mysteries in this life, he soon reached the conclusion that he'd be better not knowing.

“Gibbs, excuse me, but that has to be the most stupid Jack Sparrow story you've told us so far,” Will said.
“And one of the must disgusting,” Elizabeth said.
“Yet, it's true,” Gibbs said firmly. “It's your decision if you don't want to believe me but, somewhere in the vast sea, there's an island where a goat is protected by a wolf.”
“Which is a beautiful metaphor until you throw Jack to the mix,” Will said, to which Elizabeth nodded.
Gibbs shrugged. “That you can say of Jack and everything else.”
Neither Will nor Elizabeth could find anything they could retort to that.
