Has this ever happened to you?
I was working on the draft a short-story when:
Short-story: I can has sub-plot?
Me: You're a short-story; you're not allowed to have sub-plots.
SS: But! It'll make everything fit even more nicely!
Me: Listen, I already gave you a main character that wasn't planned when I started.
SS; Yeah, but because your "hero" is a wussy and he wouldn't have done anything otherwise.
Me: He has his reasons.
SS: Whatever. By the way, do you rememeber the character you mention on the second page? He'd be great for that sub-plot we were talking about.
Me: He's just there and doesn't show up again until the end and says three words; he's not important.
SS: But he totally is! Why would the "hero" talk about him for a whole paragraph if he wasn't?
Me: ...
SS: *looks pretty*
Me: ...fine, you'll get the sub-plot.
SS: Yay! I has sub-plot! ♥
That's my life.
In other news, I bought The Children of Men, as in the book, not the movie. I've yet to watch the latest, and it isn't like I wanted to read the original source first--sometimes I do--, but it was there and it was cheap. =3
Rest asured that I'll let you know how it is, even if it's only through a line or two.
