* ...if they suddenly realize that the film is much more complex and layered than they anticipated, they may start to flounder and ultimately drown, which seems to be what happened to a high percentage of the film critics. They went into the film expecting a certain kind of experience; they hadn't successfully learned how to take pleasure from its world-building
  • I like this guy.
  • The post, the whole of it, made me understand not only the inner workings of the movie critics, but also the ones of most of the acadamics at my university. Because, really, the "IF YOU ENJOY IT, IT'S NOT WORTHY" attitude gets tiresome, but I least now I finally sort of get it. Fortunately, it seems that the Department Heads of Doom are going to leave for good--I mean, it's rumored that the professor who likened Andromeda Shun to Amadis de Gaula (in the crying department), who is also the only one who showed real interest in my Samurai Champloo essay is going to be up there. Thus, label me happy if it comes true. *w*
* An Open Letter to Parents Who Bring Their Children to Extremely Violent Horror Films. IAWTL, but I didn't know (or didn't remember) there was a Hostel II. Must watch it. XD

Ahora, como ya tengo un poco más de cerebro libre para dedicarle a estos menesteres, hablemos sobre Mary Sues/Marías Susanas/Marías Pías desde un punto de vista tl;dr-pseudoacadémico. Oh, sí. Teman. )
